About Us
Here at Numinous, our mission is beautifully simple—
To craft cacao-centered offerings that awaken, nourish, and delight every body.
Yours included (yes, even you, with your intentional morning rituals and your secret midnight chocolate reveries).
Imagine a vibrant world, humming with aliveness—a world where cacao is as natural a part of daily life as your morning coffee or your favorite snack, weaving sensory delight seamlessly with moments of deeper connection.
There is a place where our daily indulgences nourish and enliven our bodies, awakening us to the gentle awe-inspiring mystery hidden within the everyday.
It’s here, the world we already live in, and we're here to invite you along.
My name is Tyler, but most people call me Ty. When I first heard the call of cacao in early 2024, it wasn't so much a sudden revelation as an amused sigh from the universe saying, "Really Honey, took you long enough." I'd spent nearly twenty years in specialty foods and fancy coffee. From fast-paced kitchens, to training baristas and roasting, and finally to nearly a decade working with Guatemalan coffee farmers, I'd devoted myself to parallel paths for many years, enchanting each one. It was in this last phase that I was gently nudged, while bouncing around the back of trucks in the remote Guatemalan highlands. I was chasing excellent coffees, evaluating the harvest and befriending farming families. I was deep in specialty coffee—logistics, storytelling, equitable trade, all of it wrapped in beauty—but something deeper tugged gently at my sleeve, reminding me in a whisper why I incarnated here.
Enter Chad, the wise, wry catalyst of this tale and my mentor, whom I'd met by chance (or perhaps not) in Guatemala City four years ago. We found ourselves jostled together on dusty mountain roads, talking chocolate processing and sourcing integrity—his work with Efren Maradiaga at their company Atucún Heritage Cacao was quietly revolutionizing the industry in Honduras, putting fermentation control and storytelling squarely back into the capable hands of smallholder farmers.
Later, back home, Cacao began working her subtle, powerful magic on my own spirit. Ceremonial cups of stone-ground cacao cracked my heart wide open, spilling warmth and vitality into body and soul alike. But in some of the abstract chatter around "Ceremonial Cacao", I noticed something odd—confusing gatekeeping, vague promises, mixed qualities and a lack of traceability. My curiosity turned investigative.
I went deep with Honduran cacao. While living in a 1990s motorhome, I began experimenting with processing like a vanlife scientist. So many late nights and early mornings I spent testing, tasting, iterating and taking notes. Last summer, I spent a week of long days absorbing knowledge with the team at Atucún HQ.
Numinous was born from the desire to offer inspired delights that nourish us.
Combining deep technical and logistical knowledge with an insatiable appetite for beauty, integrity, and sensory delight, we deliver single-farm traceability, uncompromising quality, and vivid storytelling, wrapped lovingly into bars and drinking forms alike. Each bite, each sip, is an invitation to everyday wonder—a delicious portal into our most enlivened consciousness. And, happily, a bit of an everyday treat, too. We can have both.
