Don Juan and his son Ivan cultivate their exquisite criollo cacao alongside coffee trees, passion fruit, bananas, and oranges. At 900 meters above sea level near the village of Palmichal in the renowned Comayagua Department, Honduras, Finca Don Juan boasts ideal conditions for delicious cacao. At 85 years old, Don Juan has been farming for many decades. Originally, he-- and eventually his son Ivan joined him-- grew fruits and coffee for local sale. With climate change came hotter, more volatile seasons, and the true criollos grown on the farm began to thrive, out-producing coffee.
Finca Don Juan is an exquisite, traceable cacao sourced through friends Efren and Chad at Atucún Heritage Cacao, a specialized Comayagua-based exporter focused on sustainable polyculture cacao. As a source with integrity, Atucún is a vital partner of Numinous.
Ingredients:
100% heritage criollo cacao
A Note on Allergens and Additives:
We stone grind our traceable cacao in machines also making delicious things from tree nuts. Apart from that, its very simple. We do not use emulsifiers like lecithins, or other additives like vanilla.
We never add sugar to Ritual Drinking Cacaos. They're 100% cacao, light roasted, cracked, air winnowed, and minimally processed on stone grinders to maintain the highest integrity from farm to cup. Every step we take with conscious love. When we drink our morning cacao, we sometimes like it with a small glob of honey and a tiny pinch of salt. Find out more on our recipes page!
Sugar in Cacao Bars:
When we add sugar to cacao bars, it is intentional. We only use traceable, raw, organically and regeneratively grown cane sugar. We add sugar for the purpose of attenuating the innate power of cacao to meet our limited palates, increasing our receptivity to the delight in every morsel.
